Signs You Should Consider Becoming a Lab Tech

If you are still in school and you are having trouble telling which career is the perfect one for you, we made a list of reasons you might want to consider becoming a lab tech. Of course, not all people would like practicing this profession, which is why we have highlighted some of the attributes that aspiring lab techs should possess. Check them out below.

It goes without saying that, with regard to your character, you need to be a bit more meticulous and organized compared to people practicing their profession in other domains. But you also need a good deal of determination and you ought to understand that becoming a lab tech requires a lot of learning and commitment to your cause.

You should love science

If you have nothing in common with science and it was a pain for you to pass any science-related subject in school, becoming a lab tech might not be the best decision for you.

On the other hand, if things like chemistry, biology, and physiology have ever appealed to you, this career path might be perfect for you. Of course, not all lab techs have to do the same things, and that’s because some have different degrees than others. Generally, with an associate degree, you can get a job in both a human and a veterinary medicine lab.

You’re detail-oriented

People make mistakes all the time, and that’s only understandable, especially when it comes to relationships and a variety of other things in their life. However, becoming a medical lab technician requires you to be as accurate as possible.

You can’t mess an analysis just because you weren’t paying attention, so if you’ve always been organized and cared for the tiny little details, you have a good chance of becoming a good lab tech.

On top of that, you need to possess a lot of patience in terms of learning how to use medical equipment. While growing up, you probably never even heard about a vacuum oven before, but using one or an autoclave will only come naturally for you if you decide on this career path.

You have nothing against staying out of the spotlight

Aside from those moments that involve you having to interact with the patients on account of you having to collect samples from them, the number of times you are going to see those people is rather low.

This, in turn, means that you should understand that, even if you aren’t in the spotlight, your role in setting a diagnosis and a correct treatment is paramount. In fact, all of the analyses you are going to process will be important in finding out what disease someone might be suffering from.

You want to join the workforce soon, and you’d prefer a stable career

Once you’ve gotten your degree and have become licensed, you can practice your profession in a variety of fields such as hematology, urinalysis, clinical chemistry, and microbiology. You’ll get an associate degree in as little as two years, so you won’t have to spend a lot of time studying if you want to get a job as soon as possible.

In addition to that, a medical laboratory technician can earn as much as $60,000 per year, so this type of job is one of the best-paid in the industry. The Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that lab tech employment will grow by 18% by 2024.

Dilemmas experienced when deciding a career

Many people have a different opinion on what factors make a job a good job for them. A job, usually, requires you to attend somewhere at least five times per week for around 8 hours per day, so it takes a big portion of your week up! Here are some of the things that people consider when deciding what career they are going to take and that if you are wanting to start a career, you should also consider:

Money

First and foremost the most important thing for a lot of people is how much money they will be earning. Deciding what college course you will take in order to graduate and move onto a career will be largely decided by how much earning potential the career has. Money varies from role to role but something that is not well known is that some roles pay more or less money in different cities or states depending on the demand for people in that role. It´s a great idea that if, for example, you are looking for a job in California, that you search specifically to find out the pay in different cities, such as looking at the San Diego job market to discover if your role pays more or less than other cities.

Job hours schedule

Many people believe in having set hours between nine to five in the day, while others don´t mind, and in some cases, prefer to work night shifts or late night shifts. Some careers are a mix of both, such as a bar manager who may work alternate shifts with the other bar manager and one week they are the bar manager in the day, and the next week they are the bar manager for the night. Remembering to ask about job hours is key before you accept a role as you don’t want to start and realise that you are doing nights!

Job commitment

Some jobs require more commitment than others, for example, if you are the personal assistant to a state senator then you will need to be available all the time and extremely flexible It may also require you to work more hours in one day than you normally would due to a campaign and you need to be prepared for that. Establishing what kind of commitment is needed is extremely necessary.

Ethical conflict

On some occasions people won´t work for a company due to the fact that they do not agree with the company’s policies, past behavior, what they stand for or what they sell. Doing research before even submitting an application is essential due to the fact that you could end up wasting your time. Some people have an ethical conflict with tobacco production and distribution companies. Someone may not even choose to go into politics and chooses a completely different field due to a hate of being involved in anything like that.

Distance from home to work

Something that many people consider when deciding on a role or job opportunity is the distance that they will have to travel each day to get to work. If you are going to study to be a telecoms engineer, there is a great chance that your job will involve travel, so thinking of what a career entails before deciding to pursue it is important.

There are other dilemmas that you will experience when choosing what career to go into, but the most important thing is to assess everything beforehand, and make an intelligent and well thought decision.

Main Tips for Writing a Resume: Get it right the first time

For a job hunter, your resume is one of the most important documents that describe you. This little document can make the whole difference between employment and joblessness. For this reason, it is important to learn how to write it effectively so that you can bolster your chances of landing employment. Moreover, after submitting a shoddy resume, you don’t stand another chance of correcting the damage. This article therefore shares some of the insights that can help you to polish your ability to write a compelling resume. Order your CV cheap on spideressay.com.

Papers and positions are good, but achievements are better

When it comes to the job market, papers are not as important as the ability to deliver. The reason is that employers are looking for people who can do their jobs productively, and not people who know much about their jobs. Additionally, they view your academic credentials as a supportive pillar, and not the main house they are looking for. You should therefore emphasize on showing your potential boss what you have done with your papers. Additionally, show them how you are intending to replicate those feats if they accept your application.

Don’t try to dazzle your potential boss with your papers because they have seen better ones in the hands of people who can’t perform. Remember, there are many ways of getting a degree, but only one way of satisfying your boss—performing your duties well.

Additionally, when citing your past positions, don’t dwell so much on the positions you held. Just as with the papers, your potential boss is looking to see what you did with the positions you held. If you can’t prove it, they may even begin suspecting you were fired for incompetence. For instance, you can say that when you were in the position of the regional sales manager, your former company was struggling. But through your intervention, it became a market leader within three years owing to skyrocketing sales.

Tell more about your skills

As you narrate your achievements, you need to show the hiring manager the skills you harnessed to achieve all that. If you highlight your skills combination clearly, the manager will know how well you can handle the position you are applying for. For instance, if you are applying for the position of a sales manager, show the manager that you have mobilization and training skills you can use to mobilize and develop your sales team.

Optimize your resume for easy reading

No matter how many skills and achievements your resume may contain, it can only benefit you if your prospective boss reads it to the end. Therefore, you should make it easier for them to skim through to the main points they may be looking for. If they have problems reading your CV, be sure it will gather dust for many years.
